Now the location for the stunning television series “Poldark”, this area of West Cornwall features spectacular clifftop scenery and the iconic Botallack Mine (See HD Video) located at the bottom of a cliff on the edge of the sea. Known by it’s ancient name of Penwith it has its own unique character. A peninsula created by the narrow neck of land left by the incursions of St Ives Bay to the north and Mounts Bay to the south, this craggy part of Cornwall has some of the best seascapes, white sand beaches and ancient Celtic settlements in the county.
The villages below are listed in geographical order around the Penwith coast, starting to the west of St Ives at Zennor, on past St Just to Sennen and Lands End, then east along the south coast from Porthcurno and Lamorna to the fishing harbours of Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance and world-famous St Michael’s Mount at Marazion.

Perranporth Perranporth is the largest beach between Gwithian in St Ives Bay and Newquay. It has a well supported Surf Life Saving Club. NEWQUAY
Newquay Newquay is the UK’s Surf City. Fistral Beach and to the north Watergate Bay are the best known. However a whole range of of other beaches both in the town and up and down the coast provide a huge range of water sport activities. The town offers a good night life, quieter in the winter but very lively during the main summer months.
